• Overall Cost of Ownership

Owning a BMW electric car or SUV can reduce your overall costs of ownership because you won’t need oil changes and fluid changes. However, you’ll need to keep an eye on the tires and brakes because EVs are heavier than comparably sized internal combustion engine models.

Prices will vary at these stations because electricity costs, just like gasoline prices, vary from city to city. Also, take into account how often you’ll use the air conditioner or heater because those run on electricity from the EV battery. Extremely hot or extremely cold temperatures may reduce the range of your BMW EV.

• Battery Warranty

The battery warranty gives you an idea of how long an EV powerplant will last. In general, the battery becomes less effective when it can’t keep up to 80% of its charge. You’ll get many years out of your battery, and it won’t start to lose its charge until you approach 100,000 miles. The battery will wear out eventually, as all batteries do. No matter how efficient a battery is, at some point in the future, it won’t be able to keep its charge and you’ll need a new battery for your EV. 

BMW has an 8-year, 100,000-mile warranty on the battery. You’ll be good for a very long time with this battery system! If it requires replacement before this time, the automaker will replace it.
