Additional BMW i4 Battery Info

Sustainable vehicle production methods are also important to the BMW brand. Not only does BMW want to create vehicles that are more friendly to the environment, the brand also wants to limit the impact of the production process. The BMW i4 battery supplier relies on regionally-sourced green electricity from hydroelectric power. BMW is also looking to shift to even more renewable or carbon-neutral sources. Below are a few current and upcoming examples.

  • Since 2013, the Leipzig plant has relied on electrical energy generated from four wind turbines.
  • The San Luis Potosí plant in Mexico is currently using energy from large-scale solar power installations.
  • Battery cell production will be contracted to the Swedish company Northvolt in 2024. The cells will be manufactured using only locally-generated wind and hydro-electric power.
